Marshalltown Community College, also known as MCC, is a public community college found in Marshalltown Iowa. The college is also known under the name Iowa Valley Community College because the school serves the local community of Iowa Valley more than the one in Marshalltown. Iowa valley is located on a high plateau in contrast to its surrounding city.
The school was first established in 1927 as the Marshalltown Junior Center. The center was under the Marshalltown Community School District until it was moved in 1966 to the Iowa Valley Community College District. Not like most community colleges in the country, MCC features on-campus housing for students. The student housing buildings are made up of 2 new building units, and each building has 24 apartments, which can house close to 100 tenants. Each of the rooms in the buildings have 2 bedrooms, with 2 beds each, a small kitchenette, and a living room.
The college offers 2-year courses of student and several prerequisites for 4-year courses. The school is also just one of three schools in the Iowa Valley Community College District System. The other two schools are the Iowa Valley Community College in Grinnell, Iowa; and the Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. Marshalltown Community College is a member of the NJCAA. The school competes in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. MCC fields teams in several sports including men’s soccer, baseball, and basketball, as well as women’s softball, basketball and volleyball. The school nickname are the Tigers.
